My New Car!!!
by queridorafa
As reported on Twitter by, erm, me, I bought Rafa’s car!!! And I’m so excited! I’ve always wanted a Kia ProCee’d! Even though I’d never heard of it up until today. Seriously, though–looks nice, right?!
Okay, I’m kidding. I probably should have said that first, because what if someone only reads the first paragraph, and doesn’t bother to read the rest, and then is like, omg, QR bought Rafa’s car, and then calls/Tweets everyone he/she knows and then it becomes, like, an Internet rumor, and everyone is like, omg, QR is totally saying she bought Rafa’s car, do you think it’s true? And then they’re like, No way!, she’s a total lying bitc…wait a second! I control this! So then they’re like, yeah, she totally did, omg, she’s so lucky, she and Rafa are like, bffs now! Totally. Yeah. So I definitely should have said I was kidding first, because I DEFINITELY wouldn’t want THAT to happen, now would I??!! Nope!
So yes, apparently there was a message today on Rafa’s FB (that appeared for Spanish fans only, I think, and then disappeared after a couple of hours?) in which he announced that he was selling his car and showed a photo of the newspaper ad that he apparently had placed advertising the Kia, including a number to call for interested buyers. Did I have a wrestling match with myself as the right side of my body desperately attempted to dial the number while the left side of my body was like, dude, c’mon!, you know it’s not his real number, grow up and be normal for once in your life, but then, luckily, a kind soul saved me from my self-wrestling match by posting a clip of the message callers were greeted by on YouTube? Perhaps, perhaps. Thank goodness for YouTube is all I have to say…
Anyway, so the consensus seems to be that this is some sort of viral marketing campaign by Kia. The newspaper ad is sort of strangely worded, i.e. it says that the Kia is like new, has 11,000 km, was little used because the owners were always traveling, you don’t want to miss this opportunity!, and, visiting it (i.e. the car) in Manacor is a possibility. Apparently “visiting a car” is not a common figure of speech–it is indeed an unusual turn of phrase. So yeah, that along with the superfluous details about traveling owners and not missing opportunities would seem to indicate this is a bit of a joke/ploy on Kia’s part. Either that, or Rafa is considering a second career in sales. I’m slightly disappointed, because I did, for a brief and shining moment, think maybe this was a prank orchestrated by Muzz (I had just heard an ad selling Rafa’s car had appeared on his FB page–so I was thinking it was the Aston Martin), and then it would indeed have been the greatest tennis prank in the history of tennis pranks. But alas, no. Muzz was busy giving 8-hour interviews (he signed a 5-year-deal with Queens, which apparently required a media day), since you know what? He’s really not interviewed enough. Seriously. There are just not enough print and television interviews with Andy Muzzard out there. I definitely need to know more about him, especially about his love of boxing.
Anyway, I guess I should go out and not admire my not new car now. It IS nice, though.
Wow.
Rafa should definitely go into car sales. Every woman in the world would be driving a Kia.
LOL true that! It’d be nice too if whenever you turn on the car there’d be sort of a welcome message like, ‘Hola! This is Rafa. Have a good day today, drive safe!’
Why not?
I thought you liked Internet rumors ; ); buying Rafa’s car seems like a fine one to me!
Do you think it sounds like him on the message? I think it very nearly does, but there’s some very subtle funky distortion going on. Can’t decide if it’s really him.
As for an advertising idea, I guess they came up with this one during one of those “brain dump” sessions, eh? (cue eye roll)
It does seem to sound like him (albeit a bit muffled!
) so I’m guessing it’s him. I guess we’ll see if they follow up with the video today, as promised!
Lol, I think you’re right–there were definitely some post-its and long, rambly sessions involved in this idea!
Just saw that video posted by Kia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f55PtvPGfpU&feature=youtu.be&a) All proceeds of the sale will go to his foundation. So I guess it was a good idea after all!
Definitely makes a lot more sense now! Great that it’s for charity, too!
WUT!!!!! QR! bought Rafa’s car. OMG!!!! #StartsRumor
No seriously I read the whole post. Hilarious! hahaha.
I don’t think Muzz is allowed to be thinking on pranks right now lol. Ivan the Ldenl keeps him a little busy developing new FH’s and such.
Thanks for doing your part in spreading the rumor!
Lol, that’s a good point–Ivan is keeping Muzz in a no-fun zone it seems. Although, definitely not a no-press zone–I’m just seeing all the many stories that came out from yesterday’s Queens interviews!
Aww, I’d love for you to be bff’s with Rafa for real! Anyway, re that FB thing, I’m kinda hoping that it is Rafa himself doing the prank. Too much time on his hands?
I was thinking the same thing–imagining Rafa concocting this elaborate pranks and thinking maybe he needs a new hobby for when he’s resting his knees? Reading tennis blogs, perhaps??
This is the “reasonably priced car” they use on Top Gear (the real British Top Gear, that is, not the American ‘Crap Gear). It’s the crappy car they let their celebrity guests drive around their track. Rafa should definitely be the guest some time and be the slowest celebrity ever
Slowest celebrity ever. LOL!! It is kind of sweet that he is such a crappy driver isn´t it. No adrenaline junkie of the court, that´s for sure.
@DavidjNadal.
Rafa is back to training and he put his knee on test.
“Is the first day I train and I have to see the progress day by day”.
“Haven’t forced it much and we’ll see how things go on Wednesday at my Debut in Monte Carlo”
“I face clay season with confidence. I’ll fight to be in the final rounds”.
“The intention is to get a good tennis level and have no physical problems”.
“I have 14 days without grabbing a racquet and I have to adapt for clay asap”.
“I don’t play on clay since Davis Cup final, So I have to do many hours on clay to adapt”.
Rafa is planning to go to Monte Carlo this friday. First match on Wednesday.
Thanks for those! Hoping for a good Rafa run in Monte Carlo, can’t wait!!
Thanks! Rafa sounds brimming in confidence, as usual…
At least he doesn’t sound overly worried about the knee. I noticed there was no tape on it in the practice pics, so that looks good! (hopefully he’ll have a good draw in Monte Carlo–hadn’t even thought about that! I’m sure there will be a few danger guys floating around in the early rounds of the draw, as usual…)
