My New Car!!!

by queridorafa

As reported on Twitter by, erm, me, I bought Rafa’s car!!! And I’m so excited! I’ve always wanted a Kia ProCee’d! Even though I’d never heard of it up until today. Seriously, though–looks nice, right?!

Okay, I’m kidding. I probably should have said that first, because what if someone only reads the first paragraph, and doesn’t bother to read the rest, and then is like, omg, QR bought Rafa’s car, and then calls/Tweets everyone he/she knows and then it becomes, like, an Internet rumor, and everyone is like, omg, QR is totally saying she bought Rafa’s car, do you think it’s true? And then they’re like, No way!, she’s a total lying bitc…wait a second! I control this! So then they’re like, yeah, she totally did, omg, she’s so lucky, she and Rafa are like, bffs now! Totally. Yeah. So I definitely should have said I was kidding first, because I DEFINITELY wouldn’t want THAT to happen, now would I??!! Nope!

So yes, apparently there was a message today on Rafa’s FB (that appeared for Spanish fans only, I think, and then disappeared after a couple of hours?) in which he announced that he was selling his car and showed a photo of the newspaper ad that he apparently had placed advertising the Kia, including a number to call for interested buyers. Did I have a wrestling match with myself as the right side of my body desperately attempted to dial the number while the left side of my body was like, dude, c’mon!, you know it’s not his real number, grow up and be normal for once in your life, but then, luckilya kind soul saved me from my self-wrestling match by posting a clip of the message callers were greeted by on YouTube? Perhaps, perhaps. Thank goodness for YouTube is all I have to say… ;)

Anyway, so the consensus seems to be that this is some sort of viral marketing campaign by Kia. The newspaper ad is sort of strangely worded, i.e. it says that the Kia is like new, has 11,000 km, was little used because the owners were always traveling, you don’t want to miss this opportunity!, and, visiting it (i.e. the car) in Manacor is a possibility. Apparently “visiting a car” is not a common figure of speech–it is indeed an unusual turn of phrase. So yeah, that along with the superfluous details about traveling owners and not missing opportunities would seem to indicate this is a bit of a joke/ploy on Kia’s part. Either that, or Rafa is considering a second career in sales. I’m slightly disappointed, because I did, for a brief and shining moment, think maybe this was a prank orchestrated by Muzz (I had just heard an ad selling Rafa’s car had appeared on his FB page–so I was thinking it was the Aston Martin), and then it would indeed have been the greatest tennis prank in the history of tennis pranks. But alas, no. Muzz was busy giving 8-hour interviews (he signed a 5-year-deal with Queens, which apparently required a media day), since you know what? He’s really not interviewed enough. Seriously. There are just not enough print and television interviews with Andy Muzzard out there. I definitely need to know more about him, especially about his love of boxing.

Anyway, I guess I should go out and not admire my not new car now. It IS nice, though. ;)
